Andie: Our love fern! You let it die!
Ben: No, honey, it's just sleeping.
Today I found out that our "love fish," wasn't sleeping. Unlike humans, fish don't enjoy sleeping on their sides. Harry was the first one to notice it. After pushing the fish around with a net and getting no response, it finally dawned on me. First, I realized it was truly, undeniably dead. Second, I retraced what events led to its death. I had left the fish in the little cup it had came in from the pet store. I was in the process of changing and sanitizing its bowl. I usually fill the water to the top, put a couple of drops of bleach and let it sit for awhile. Being the busy college student that I am, I put off dumping out the bleach water and putting the fish back into clean water. My roommate, thinking only good thoughts and only wanting to do good deeds, decided to save me some time and put the fish back into its bowl and into the bleach-water solution. Needless to say, the fish probably didn't last more than a few minutes.
Harry and I had a special relationship with the fish because of the events surrounding its introduction to the family (for all intensive purposes, we are going to assume Harry and I are somewhat of a family). Jessica was leaving for China for an entire fall semester and wanted to give Harry something so he wouldn't be lonely. She decided to surprise him by asking Jackie Watanabe to take care of the fish until Harry came back from summer vacation. Jackie was kinda grumpy about the whole ordeal, but agreed because Jessica graciously agreed to let her borrow a much needed cooking pot. I NEVER GOT THAT BACK, BTW!!! Upon receiving the fish, Harry was completely overcome with joy. While this wasn't be a perfect substitution for Jessica, it served as an everyday reminder that their love, like the fish, would always stay afloat.
This one's for you, FISHY.
Early Winter
by Gwen Stefani
You, you know how to get me so low
My heart had a crash when we spoke
I can't fix what you broke
And I always was, always was one for cryin
I always was one for tears
[Chorus 1]
The sun's getting cold, it's snowin
Looks like an early winter for us
an early winter, oh I need you to turn me over
It's sad the map of the world is on you
The moon gravitates around you
The seasons escape you
No I never was, never was one for lyin
You lied to me all these years
[Chorus 2]
The sun's getting cold, it's snowin
Looks like an early winter for us
It Looks like an early winter for us
An early winter, oh I need you to turn me over
Why, why do you act so stupid
Why, you know that I'm always right
It Looks like an early winter for us
It hurts and I can't remember sunlight
An early winter for us
The leaves are changing colors for us
Starting over and over and over again
Starting over and over and over again
Well it looks like an early winter for us
It looks like an early winter for us
